September in Review. October on deck.

UPDATE: This week, we will have another Word Smart quiz on the next two pages of the SAT words.  It won't be as hard.  It will be in your second class.  : )

Hello Students,

I think things are rolling along well, and I'm impressed with the writing I've seen so far.  September was fun, and we managed to get quite a bit done.  So what's next?

The Mid-Term:

As far as I'm aware, you will write your Midterm Exam on October 15th, from 9:20 until 11:10 for a total of 100 minutes (a break in between).   Mr. Moon will be providing an essay prompt, while I will be incorporating the following:

  • Word Smart Review - identifying correct usage of SAT Words - pages 289-295.  Not as hard as our in class tests, but more words covered.  We will likely have at least one more quiz before then (maybe two).
  • Shawshank Redemption - differences between the film and the book (MC, T/F etc), and some short answer questions.
  • Hero's Journey - the 12 stages (MC, T/F, Matching etc.)
So, to prepare for this - I trust that you've read the Shawshank Redemption, and also found a way to watch it on your own time.  As I said before, we simply can't watch it all in class due to its length.  I suggest you find your own methods of watching it, but if you are desperate - here it is on a Chinese streaming sight.  The quality is very good, and there's even Korean subtitles, but beware of pop-ups and weird advertisements:

Here are some SAT Hit Parade study tools:

And even a fun game! Drag and drop the definitions to their matching words to make them disappear.

  1. Mr. Garrioch, next to the "Hero's Journey", what does "MC, T/F. matching" mean?
