10b5 Scores - Argumentative Essay: Ken Robinson on Creativity

I apologize for the amount of time it's taking to get things graded, but Seniors are dominating my time with college essays and letters, and November 1st is their deadline.

10b5 is coming along nicely, and I like what I see on the blogs.  Try to post reading journals AS you read - and not three weeks later. Remember, these are up to you to complete at your own pace, and you should write at least two for Shawshank - one about the book and one about the film and book compared.   If you haven't written one about the book it is probably too late, so try to make a better one to compensate about the film and book.

As for "extra writing."  Reposting stuff from other classes is fine, but what I find really impressive is real extra writing that is obviously not something from last year or last week in Mr. Moon's class.  What I like to see are creative things, like what Jingyeong has done with her amazing photography, or even a poem like Sehee's.  Extra writing is writing for the sake of writing and should be fun, and 10b5 isn't writing as much as some of the other classes.

Here are the scores.  Going up!  Keep in mind that Structure is an easy place to earn extra points simply by making your post look good.

For each assignment I'd like to highlight one student's paper as an example of quality work.  Because I feature it does not mean it's the absolute best essay of the bunch or the highest scoring, but there might be something that student did that I feel is worth looking at.

For this assignment I'd like to look at Jiseon's paper.   What makes this a strong essay is the amount of extra research she did to illustrate a well stated thesis which she discussed through posed questions.  Though she's not the best writer in terms of grammar, she is very good at getting to a point clearly and economically.  This essay is actually one of the shortest in the class at just over 600 words, but in this case "short and sweet" works and her arguments develop with outside sources.  Lot's of stats and pictures which enforce her views persuasively.  Though the font is a bit small, the post simply looks "good."  Organized, centered, and designed to deliver her message effectively.  And while I never said this was necessary, she even cited her sources!  The extra mile, in this case, has earned extra points.  So try to keep this in mind - essays on paper are soon to be a thing of the past.  Use the blog to maximize the impact of your writing by enriching it with pictures and links which help add oomph.

Good work everyone.
